Back to the '90s: Becoming a Director

Award-winning director Zhao Qing transmigrates to 1997, just after graduating and being assigned a job.

The good news: She has been assigned to work as a director at Sanba Film Studio.

The bad news: China Film has stopped state-run purchasing and distribution. Accustomed to planned production, the state-owned studio has no idea how to navigate the market, and Hollywood blockbusters are leaving it in the dust.

Sanba Film Studio has been losing money for six years straight, and its debts have reached thirty million. A saying has become common around the studio:

"Don't make movies and wait to die. Make movies and you're asking to die."

Everyone wants to escape this ship about to go under. The veterans are leaving for business or jumping ship to other companies.

Zhao Qing: "Actually, I think our studio can still be saved."

Later, the whole world knows that Huaxia has a Sanba Film Studio.

The movies they produce take the world by storm, their fans are everywhere, and they redefine what cinema means.

Hollywood, Bollywood? They're all amateurs compared to them!
