I have an online boyfriend.

He's handsome, with green hair and catlike eyes. He's an adorable tsundere, and a world-famous tennis star.

I'm so happy.

And he's overseas, so we can't meet or talk face to face. We can only share our daily lives through a screen.

I'm even happier.

If nothing unexpected happens, something unexpected is bound to happen. My boyfriend decides to return to the country and suggests we meet.

I'm not happy at all.

Because I can't speak!

As a Cursed Speech user who can only communicate with a fixed vocabulary to protect myself and others, he'd definitely get scared off if we met in person.

In a panic, the only way I could think of to pretend to be mute was vetoed by my twin brother.

I used all sorts of excuses to turn him down several times, but I still couldn't get away with it.

Looks like there's only one thing left to do.

That day, I arrived at our meeting place early and carefully hid in a corner.

My boyfriend arrived soon after. Once I had him in my sights, I whispered, “Go to the supermarket, buy a bottle of soy sauce, then go home.”

He obediently left.

Whatever. I'll hide first and figure out the rest later.

Echizen didn't understand why he'd inexplicably bought a bottle of soy sauce and gone home that day.

He apologized to his girlfriend, Inumaki Inori. He'd thought she'd be angry, but she didn't seem to mind at all.

Strange. So strange.

Later, they still ended up meeting in person by accident.

Online, the girl loved acting cute and telling him how adorable he was. In real life, though, she half-covered her face and acted dazed, occasionally blurting out a word or two about cat breeds.

For example:

Echizen: “Do you want some juice?”

She blinked her pretty, pale purple eyes. “Golden chinchilla.”

...That probably meant yes.

So was this some strange family rule?

He didn't mind and chose to respect it.

Until one day, Echizen passed by an abandoned school.

He glanced over casually and happened to see his usually frail girlfriend leap from the fifth floor.

...?

His girlfriend turned and saw him too. Then, in the first words she'd ever spoken, she cried out in shock, “...Ahhh! Why are you here? Don't come any closer!”

An uncontrollable force surged through his body. By the time he came to his senses, he'd been pushed back more than ten meters.

Echizen: “...”

Reader's Guide:

1. First-person narration. The heroine is Toge Inumaki's twin sister. All details about the Inumaki family are author inventions, including their way of communicating. In the original, it's similar to telepathy. Geto Suguru survives, and everyone who can be saved is saved. HEA.

2. The Prince of Tennis timeline is all over the place. Echizen is in his second year of high school. Lots and lots of author inventions. The overall power levels in The Prince of Tennis don't entirely follow the latest canon.

3. A sweet, everyday romance. Since it's told from the heroine's perspective, there will be more fight scenes than tennis, but romance and daily life are still the focus.

Villainous beauty? Wrong! She's a silly beauty.

There's no doubt that Kurokawa Hizuki is a great beauty.

She's also arrogant, vain, full of lies, and selfish.

Ever since she was little, everyone had been captivated by her looks. It made life much easier for her, letting her indulge herself amid other people's infatuation and adoration.

But her charm seemed to have an increasingly strange effect on bad people. It made them more attracted to her, while also magnifying their wickedness.

When had Kurokawa Hizuki ever suffered such an indignity? Right then and there, she swore she'd make him fall madly in love with her, then dump him!

The good news: She succeeded, and it was easy.

Since he could satisfy her taste for luxury and pleasure as well as protect her, she might as well make use of him for now.

The bad news: Pretending to be innocent was exhausting, and he didn't seem all that easy to fool.

She'd have to find a chance to run away.

Echizen had already seen through his girlfriend's little vanity and capriciousness beneath her pretty exterior. Every now and then, she even caused a little “trouble,” but he didn't mind.

Later, he gradually realized that she seemed to want to get away from him, and the “trouble” she caused was getting worse.

It was fine. She still had a long way to go. He'd set her “straight,” and he'd figured out ages ago that she was just an innocent, unlucky fool.

One day, Echizen looked at his girlfriend's would-be suitor, who was on the verge of tears, and smirked.

So much for being impressive. He dared to provoke me, but he's just a loser.

Just then, his girlfriend arrived and patted him on the shoulder. “What are you two doing?”

“Don't know him. Never met him,” he replied.

Apparently embarrassed that the girl he liked had seen him in such a pathetic state, the provocateur wiped away his tears and snot, then threw caution to the wind and tried to sucker-punch Echizen.

Echizen was about to dodge, but the girl beside him shoved him aside first. She looked disgusted as she shouted at the other guy, “Your hand's covered in snot, and you still want to touch him? Get lost!” Then she turned to Echizen. “I won't let you hang out with someone so gross!”

Echizen: “...” What a fool.

It was fine. There was nothing wrong with that.
