The Powerful Minister Oversteps His Place

Everyone in the palace was waiting to see the cold palace prince get tossed aside once the regent grew tired of him. Instead, they watched him dressed in a wedding crown and robes, being married into the prince regent's household. Chu Yuntang, a prince from the cold palace, had incomparable beauty and a life as fragile as paper. At palace banquets, people splashed wine on him. In the imperial garden, they harassed him. In the Empress Dowager's hall, they made him kneel in punishment. Anyone could take a kick at him. Until Yan Yuanming, the regent who held power over the entire court, wrapped him in a sable cloak and carried him away in front of everyone. The onlookers laughed: He was nothing but a new plaything. The regent would tire of him in a few days. But then... When the plaything fell ill, the regent canceled court for three days and personally fed him medicine. When the plaything was bullied, the regent slaughtered the culprit's entire household and displayed their heads for all to see. When the plaything was forced to marry, the regent tore up the imperial edict and pointed his sword at the throne hall. "Anyone who brings it up again will be executed without mercy." Only then did everyone panic. This wasn't a plaything, he was an ancestor they had to worship! Later, war broke out at the border, and the regent went off to battle. Everyone thought the prince, now out of favor, would finally be cast aside. Instead, they saw him in the command tent, dressed in armor and standing before the sand table, while the haughty regent lowered his head and patiently fastened his cloak. "My lord strategist, what is today's plan?" [Bonus Scene] The new emperor asked curiously, "Uncle, why did you choose only Imperial Aunt back then?" Yan Yuanming toyed with the fingers of the person in his arms and smiled faintly. "He wasn't chosen." "I spent ten years being careful before I finally got to hold him in my arms." [Reading Guide] 1.
