Day after day, year after year, Elizabeth dreamed of the same person. In her dreams, he had abilities beyond the reach of ordinary people and was a beacon of light in her dark, painful life.
She worshipped him as a god for twenty years.
But gods belong in myths. When a dream comes true, a god steps into the mortal world.
Don't you agree, Superman?
She slowly raised her head from the newspaper.
She had missed everything that came before in his life, but that was all right. It wasn't too late now.
[I've found you.]
A prophecy in her dream said that Clark Kent had to be with the person destined for him to ensure world peace.
That person wasn't her.
If she couldn't have him, then what did it matter if the world was destroyed? No, that wasn't right. Even if the world were destroyed, her god, who had become a man, must not fall into ruin.
She understood now.
The prophecy only said Clark Kent had to be with the person destined for him. It never said Superman had to be with his destined lover.
If they didn't make their relationship official, then they weren't really together.
Right?
And if not, then let the world be destroyed.
Clark thought his new colleague hated him.
She was the very picture of an accomplished, highly educated woman. She was sophisticated and elegant with everyone else, but with him she was all business, barely sparing him a glance.
But he was the only one who knew her other side.
She wore dresses in such vivid colors and jumped once, then twice. He rescued her once, then twice. Her chest pressed against him, her arms wrapped around him, and her full, vividly colored lips curved into a smile as she promised to live.
He pretended to leave.
The next second, she jumped again.
“What happened to you? What are you going through? What do you want?” he asked.
She smiled lightly. “What if I said I wanted you?”
Superman lost his reason.
He thought that even if she was only playing with him, he would gladly let her.
Until the day he realized she really was only playing with him.
A note before you read:
· The author is a sucker for trashy romance and just wants something delightfully conventional.
· A double act between two adults who both favor men and women. Any OOC is on me; all glory belongs to the original work.
· Pure romance, so you can read it without knowing the source material. It's even better if you've seen the movies. Characterization draws partly on My Adventures with Superman and a blend of the Dark Multiverse Superman, but these are only references; I make no claims about keeping the characters in character.
· This doesn't involve the original DCU or its plot, because, for example, the heroine is already gone from the start in Justice League.
· The worldview, timeline, and plot are my own inventions. This is an indulgence written to suit my tastes; lore purists, proceed with caution (bows).
· Later on, Superman gets seriously ghostly. When a Kryptonian gets creepy, nobody else stands a chance.
· If this isn't for you, please get out while you can! Thanks for stopping by.
· Now, enjoy your meal!
