Ever since she was little, Chen Ying had wanted to seduce Gu Die.

She hated Gu Die's haughty, self-righteous gaze, hated the way she acted aloof and turned down every advance, hated her lukewarm concern, as stale as day-old bread.

Most of all, she hated the reverence for God in Gu Die's eyes, as if everyone else in the world were mere mortals, unworthy of even a glance from her.

Chen Ying stole Gu Die's shirt and wore it.

Gu Die found out and only smiled gently, saying with pity, "You can keep it."

Chen Ying deliberately stretched in front of Gu Die, showing off her figure.

Gu Die didn't even look her way. She sat a short distance away with a book, reciting it over and over under her breath.

Chen Ying told Gu Die, "I really like you."

Gu Die seemed about to touch her hair, but her hand never came down. "You're still a child."

Chen Ying got bored. Chen Ying grew up. Chen Ying gave up.

Chen Ying fell for someone else. Her eyes began to linger on the people she'd met at university. Chen Ying no longer clung to Gu Die every day to go to church or the supermarket.

Until one day, she came home at dawn after drinking and found Gu Die waiting in the living room without a word.

Chen Ying, who had trained in dance for years, felt the pain of a black Bible pressed against her back like an extra bone. Gu Die held her tightly from the front, keeping her arched body in place.

In a daze, she heard a few broken words.

"Deliver me from my enemies... You are my refuge."

PS: Inspired by watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame and getting carried away. Set in the modern day.
