Mailbox No. 85

In January 1965, the First Ministry of Machine Building issued a directive to ensure the successful completion of the national priority military project, Task 803, and the production of the first naval periscope. It approved dividing the Shanghai Optical Instrument Factory in two and relocating some of its equipment and personnel inland to Lincheng, where the country's new optical instrument manufacturing base, Xuyang Optical Instrument Factory, would be established.

Xia Xingyao, a Qing University mechanical engineering graduate who had started working in the Optical Instrument Factory's intelligence department just half a month earlier, was also on the relocation list.

Blurb to be completed.
