Who Is Censor Pei Impeaching Today?

Pei Congjun looks like a fine gentleman, stands six feet tall, and placed third in the palace examinations.

A man like that ought to be the first choice for the daughters of noble families seeking a husband, but unfortunately, he can't keep his mouth shut.

He's only a fifth-rank Investigating Censor, yet from the emperor and his consorts to the chancellor and the generals, anyone he can insult gets it. He even submits an impeachment against the cat raised by the Empress Dowager.

His choice of words is sharp, his writing dripping with sarcasm.

Someone once said, “If Censor Pei licked his own lips, would he poison himself?”

Pei Congjun retorted, “If I kissed you, would I poison you to death?”

Dongfang Wu is Pei Congjun's next-door neighbor.

They should have been childhood sweethearts, close and devoted to each other. Unfortunately, Dongfang Wu's favorite pastime is chasing cats and dogs, and he and Pei Congjun have been at odds since childhood.

Pei Congjun can barely look at him without finding fault, and he honed his sharp tongue on Dongfang Wu.

Dongfang Wu jumps high, and Pei Congjun says, “Like a grasshopper.”

Dongfang Wu comes last in his exams, and Pei Congjun says, “Your brain's so useless, even a charity wouldn't take it.”

Dongfang Wu goes off to war, and Pei Congjun says, “...Don't die. Even if you do, I'm not collecting your body.”

Later, Dongfang Wu returns in triumph and becomes a great general. Even the last bit of pure ground that Pei Congjun had managed to keep free of Dongfang Wu is now occupied.

So...

“I impeach the loyal and valiant General Dongfang Wu!”
