The Mingjiao spent years robbing escorts. Back when the Tangmen was still a novice, they robbed him every time. After a while, the Mingjiao started feeling guilty, so he even taught the Tangmen some techniques, making him something of a half-master. But he doesn't remember any of it: he's robbed too many people.
Later, after getting into trouble, he changed his name and identity, and never saw the little Tangmen again.
The Tangmen was always bullied by the Mingjiao. He both loved and hated him, but never saw him again, until many years later in the Longmen Desert, when the Tangmen spotted that familiar figure once more.
The Mingjiao was just as carefree as ever, robbing escorts as he had for ten years.
Tangmen, all grown up: The Mingjiao's flower language is "Too slow, and it's gone."
The wildcat became a house cat in an instant. The Tangmen locked the Mingjiao up in his private residence and made him plant flowers, cook, fetch water, and sweep the courtyard. He dumped all the chores of a housekeeper on the Mingjiao. Watching the once-arrogant villain obediently do as he was told made the Tangmen happier than he could say.
The Tangmen pushed his luck: Can you call me Master?
Mingjiao: ...
He wanted to curse, but he couldn't win a fight anymore.
