A Snow to Wash Away the Old Winter

Northeastern county-town fiction | An ordinary love story

At the entrance to Yuan City Railway Station, Lin Qingye nearly tripped, her glasses still fogged up.

A young man about her age steadied her. Lin Qingye hurriedly thanked him, then dragged her luggage back to the old house.

No one had lived in the house for a long time, so Lin Qingye had to go downstairs to buy something to eat.

The sky over Yuan City was only just beginning to brighten, and the morning market below was bustling.

Dragging her tired legs, Lin Qingye looked around until she was nearly dazzled. Then a familiar voice suddenly rang out: “Hey, we meet again! What would you like to eat?”

Little scene:

After getting their marriage certificate, Jiang Sui visited the place where Lin Qingye had grown up for the first time.

A light snow fell from the gray sky. People hurried along, and the streets were silent.

Lin Qingye’s hand was cold. He held it in his palm until it warmed up.

The delicate girl said to him, “Only when I come back to Yuan City do I feel truly alive. Everyone has their own way of living. I’m not suited to this city.”

It was a choice, but also a helpless one. That winter, she saw herself in someone else’s eyes once again, just as she had many years ago. A wanderer with nowhere to settle had no strength left to welcome spring after yet another winter without snow.

Theme: The coldest winter is the beginning of a warm spring.
