I Became Famous After Faking a Ship with My Cool-Headed Nemesis

Coming soon: My Catlike Boss Won't Leave Me Alone. The blurb is at the very bottom.

The audition show ends with Tan Zhiyu and Chi Yingzhu tied for first place, and a photo of them staring coldly at each other shoots to the top of the trending searches.

One is an all-round idol who has tied back her hair and, for once, stopped smiling. The other is the group's visual, gorgeous and alluring but cool-tempered.

As confetti falls, they stand far apart without even exchanging a perfunctory congratulations.

Whether on variety shows, on stage, or on social media, the two top members of the popular girl group never interact.

They are always trying to outdo each other.

Tan Zhiyu is terrible at games and always loses. She fumes and refuses to spare Chi Yingzhu even a glance, then tips her head back to drink the penalty liquor, only for Chi Yingzhu to snatch away her glass.

Knowing about her stomach problems, Chi Yingzhu watches her and resigns herself to saying, "I give up."

Before long, fan-made videos start appearing, desperately trying to find sweet moments amid all the angst.

Their agency forces them to play up a romantic relationship, so the two awkward girls can only plaster on smiles for the cameras.

"I know you hate me. You don't have to fake a smile," Chi Yingzhu says, pretending to be casual in private.

"I have an image to maintain. I'm a very professional idol," Tan Zhiyu replies through gritted teeth.

No one knows that Tan Zhiyu and Chi Yingzhu have known each other since they were little.

No one knows they were once each other's greatest rivals.

From every practice exam in school to every training session, they were always trying to outdo each other. It seems the fans were right to call them "enemies who are secretly in love."

Chi Yingzhu still stops her. "Should we make up? We could be friends again, like we were as kids."

Tan Zhiyu glances at her and walks away. She absolutely doesn't want to make up with her. Who wants to be her friend?

The audition show's temporary group disbands. Their relationship, which had just begun to thaw, freezes over again. Tan Zhiyu continues making music, while Chi Yingzhu goes into acting.

The CP fans lament that all that's left between them is old, expired ship fuel.

Then one day, Chi Yingzhu is photographed visiting Tan Zhiyu's residential complex late at night...

"Mm... You can't get so close to those coworkers of yours." Chi Yingzhu seems to have had a lot to drink.

It's the first time Tan Zhiyu has seen her cry. Her heart softens. "Okay, let's make up."

Their schedules start overlapping more and more, and their social media photo logs quietly reveal lots of matching items.

Fans bring up their old ship again.

Chi Yingzhu responds right away: We're dating.

Tan Zhiyu immediately sends her a private message: ? Doesn't making up mean being ordinary friends?

Please add my upcoming story to your collection, please!!!

During the interview, Zhi Yuan sits obediently in her chair. Song Xining has stepped in as her interviewer, her gaze as icy as frost behind her slim black glasses.

After passing the interview, Zhi Yuan thinks Director Song is strict but especially kind. She gives her a ride home in the rain and leaves a serving of washed fruit on her desk, too.

It's a shame this company is only a stepping-stone for Zhi Yuan. One day, she'll move on to a big company.

One day, in a torrential downpour, Zhi Yuan finds a cat on her way home.

The cat is beautiful and aloof. At home, it keeps its distance from Zhi Yuan and never says a word.

Zhi Yuan's rented apartment is tiny and shabby. On top of her job, she works part-time to save up for a house.

Zhi Yuan is so dense that she doesn't notice how much cleaner her room gets each time she comes home.

The cat is too proud to say anything. It just circles Zhi Yuan and meows once.

Zhi Yuan thinks she can't stay here forever. She wants to move to a big company, but she doesn't have a car and can't take the cat with her.

So Zhi Yuan brings a woman home to adopt the cat. The cat panics and tries to bite her.

Zhi Yuan hurriedly explains things to the cat, but it runs away anyway.

The cat is gone for a long time. Song Xining is gone for a long time, too, apparently on a business trip.

Zhi Yuan can't find the cat, but she has to leave the city.

Zhi Yuan never expected Song Xining to be the CEO of her new company. She freezes for two seconds, then turns and runs.

Song Xining reaches out to stop her, gritting her teeth. "You got what you wanted, and now you want to run?"
