Hunting Tobacco

“This island is our home, isn’t it?”

When Feisi placed a wreath of tobacco flowers on the silver bow, Wata lowered her eyes and did not answer.

The storm had just passed. Raindrops clung to the tobacco plants on the sunny slope.

Feisi was the god of tobacco, growing wild from a crack in the stone. Wata was a fallen hunting god, her broken bow covered in dust.

On Ash Isle, abandoned by the gods, they endured the coldest nights with the warmth of each other’s bodies.
