She Turns the Entertainment Industry Upside Down

Updated daily! Hope you enjoy reading! *scatters flowers* If you have the looks, emotional intelligence, and acting chops, and you're willing to work yourself to the bone and endure hardship... Then you should start by going for the grand slam! With that goal in mind, the ambitious Su Nian officially enters the entertainment industry. Tremble, Chinese entertainment industry. The strictest mother in the acting world is about to arrive. Up against a purely evil villain who stops at nothing, Su Nian brings out the character's humiliation and sorrow as she struggles to climb the ladder in the cracks of the power structure. Playing an innocent, bubbly princess who seems to be nothing but a pretty face, Su Nian tears through the facade and portrays her struggle and resignation under the crushing weight of the system, prompting the director to add scene after scene. As a retired athlete caught in a shipwreck, Su Nian carries a box-office hit worth hundreds of millions with a series of wordless solo performances. Then there's the superlative wage slave who's been reincarnated five times and spent two thousand years saving money; the criminal whose code name is "Mother"; and the lantern demon who needs special-effects makeup... Su Nian drives directors wild with excitement, makes screenwriters cry out that they've finally found a kindred spirit, and has producers waiting with scripts in hand for her to choose. But Su Nian wants to climb even higher. She wants to be the one who chooses, not the one who's chosen, and she refuses to be defined! The crushing force of capital, gamble agreements, blacklisting, and censorship come thundering her way. Fortunately, she doesn't walk this thorny road to the summit alone. Su Nian meets women directors, women cinematographers, women investors... and many, many more kindred spirits. They lift one another up, form alliances, work together, and claim their seats at the table. There's another ambition Su Nian never voiced when she said she wanted to "win the grand slam." She wants a say. She wants more people to have a seat at the table; She wants the old rules overturned. And then, may all the poor scholars beneath heaven find joy and shelter. *Looking back, the author was startled to realize that some of the earlier chapters really were as dry and repetitive as eating a baguette or a loaf of rye bread. I also hadn't learned much from my early days studying the craft on Weibo and Douban. I've done some further study since then and feel I've learned a lot, so I've been revising the story lately. If anything seems odd, please feel free to point it out. Thank you, everyone! Theme: Those who hold on to their sincerity and work hard will eventually find one another and become a light.
