Under new regulations in the future, the day female ability-users complete their education is also their mate-selection day. On that day, males must go to a female’s home and invite her themselves. Females cannot change their minds or refuse.
The male and female who spend mate-selection day together become first spouses. Females can receive their graduation certificates and enter the workforce only after completing mate-selection day.
After transmigrating here and learning about this new regulation, Song Lou began preparing for it.
To keep males from setting their sights on him, he dressed modestly, grew his hair long and messy, and made himself synonymous with being withdrawn and eccentric. Even so, he couldn’t stop people from becoming interested in him.
They fawned over him and supported him. Unable to bear giving up those perks, Song Lou decided to keep a few fish on the hook, choosing the ones who showered him with the most money. He began responding to them, but always vaguely, never giving any of them a clear answer.
As mate-selection day drew near, the big fish grew restless. Every few days they would corner Song Lou somewhere, and, hopeful or irritable, press him: “You’ve been stringing me along for so long, Lou Lou. You’ve decided by now, right? What time should I come over on mate-selection night?”
Song Lou couldn’t push them away, so he kept putting them off. At last, he looked wistful. “I’m sorry, I already have a boyfriend... It’s not your fault, it’s all mine. He’ll come on mate-selection day. You know I can’t refuse...”
Poor Lou Lou, so upset and disappointed. Who was this unknown boyfriend who was forcing him by breaking the promise they had made to each other?
