Ji Huaisi built a wildly successful career from scratch with her unconventional women’s clothing brand, making her a rising star in the business world through sheer hard work.
For the first twenty-six years of her life, CEO Ji’s motto had always been: Be an independent, free-spirited woman, and live a brilliant life full of hard work and achievement.
One day, after coming home from working late, she found an ancient bride in full wedding regalia sitting on her bed.
Ji Huaisi began to wonder.
Had she been staying up too late lately?

Liu Qiyu’s life had always been precarious.
When she was young, a family upheaval dragged her down, and she ended up in the Music Office. By the time she was twenty-seven, she had finally saved enough money to buy back her freedom.
Before age and fading beauty caught up with her, she planned to find a good man to rely on for the rest of her life.
She was a courtesan, of low status, and never dreamed of wealth or rank. All she hoped for was someone who would not look down on her and would treat her kindly.
But disaster struck on the way to her wedding, and she transmigrated to the modern world.
Liu Qiyu had no idea what had happened, and eagerly awaited her wedding night.
But instead of being lifted with care, her red veil was yanked off and tossed carelessly onto the floor.
All her dreams shattered.
The man she had married did not seem nearly as gentle as she had imagined.
Her bridegroom’s expression turned cold as he sternly warned her to get out at once. She was not to sit on the bed, either, or he would call the police.
Liu Qiyu’s face turned deathly pale. She could not understand why she was being treated this way on her wedding night, or why she was being driven off the bed.
Tears streamed silently down her face.
In her desperation, she looked up through her tears and called softly:
“My wife.”

What kind of nonsense is this?
Miss, if I remember correctly, the Qing Dynasty fell a long time ago.

Ji Huaisi had spent half her life making her way in the world and was used to seeing elite businesswomen. She thought this was a rising age of women, but she had never expected to meet a feudal relic like Liu Qiyu.
The woman was beautiful and gentle, with a soft disposition. With tears in her eyes, she was utterly pitiable.
She was clearly a year older than Ji Huaisi, yet her understanding of the world was so narrow and pathetic.
Her head was full of the Three Obediences and Four Virtues, with her wife as her heaven and her guiding principle.
Every day, she washed her hands to make her meals, sewed and cut cloth, helped her change clothes, served her tea, and sang in a lilting voice, hoping for a word of approval.
Unfortunately, Ji Huaisi did not consider being virtuous and dutiful a compliment.
As a woman herself, she could not find a single quality in Liu Qiyu worth admiring.
If she had not been afraid Liu Qiyu would hang herself at the door to prove her devotion, or worried she would remarry some penniless man and have three children in a year, Ji Huaisi would have sent her packing long ago.
With no other choice, Ji Huaisi used what little free time she had between work to teach Liu Qiyu the basics of modern feminism. She hoped Liu Qiyu would free her mind, refuse to be anyone’s appendage, and, best of all, spread her wings and soar.
Liu Qiyu listened quietly. At first, she could not understand a word. Later, she simply thought the rouge on her wife’s lips looked lovely as they moved.
Eventually, she really did understand. She also gained the confidence to make her own living, earning a fortune day after day and proving she could do well on her own.
But with Ji Huaisi, Liu Qiyu always pretended not to understand.
After all, she had gradually come to understand something else:
Once she was capable of living independently, she would be thrown out.
Ji Huaisi did not like her.
Nor did she ever consider Liu Qiyu her wife.
A cold-on-the-outside, warm-on-the-inside CEO and a gentle yet stubborn, slightly scheming wife
The premise is a little angsty, but the story itself is sweet and steamy. One-on-one romance, happy ending.
Important content warnings: 1. At first, one of the female leads has a mindset shaped by the feudal past. She is not an independent heroine, so readers may find her as infuriating as CEO Ji does (just kidding). 2. This is not a serious, realistic story.
