Yi Yi's Star Language Project

At home, Mom created a language planet of "no pain, no fear" for Yiyi, a special child she had taken in.

In that world, "pain" is called "the stars are dancing," and "tiredness" means "the clouds have come to hug me."

She hopes that by using a new language, Yiyi will never have to know the meaning of "fear" or "death."

But I never believed any of it.

I thought it was just Mom's fantasy, a game that covered up a cruel reality with fairy tales.

Yet when I faced setbacks at school and watched coldly from the sidelines at home, those clear, baby-like eyes quietly began to chip away at the wall around my heart.

Gradually, I began to wonder: "Language" isn't just a refuge Mom built for Yiyi. When people use a completely new "language" to name the world, the world itself can become different.
