Xu Wenyu never imagined that the next time she saw Gu Yuan after their divorce would be at a military base.

Tall, long-legged, broad-shouldered, with a face as deep and still as a pool, he exuded a cold, distant air of authority.

A woman in military uniform was following behind him.

"Sorry." Xu Wenyu, usually so easygoing, cut him off coldly. "I'm not interested in anything about him."

They hurried away, unaware that the ramrod-straight figure behind them had suddenly stopped, his deep gaze fixed on her retreating back.

The Xu and Gu families had been close for generations, so it was only natural that they arranged a childhood betrothal for their children.

No one expected their five-year marriage to end in divorce.

Afterward, Xu Wenyu went abroad to continue her studies, while Gu Yuan threw himself into military service. The two acted as if they never wanted to see each other again.

So when they showed up hand in hand at the Gu patriarch's eightieth birthday banquet, the elders from both families who knew their history were stunned.

At the banquet, they were all over each other, as affectionate as newlyweds.

When no one else was around, the tension between them could freeze water.

After the banquet, Gu Yuan offered to take her home, but Xu Wenyu refused.

"My boyfriend is coming. Don't trouble yourself."

At a dinner party one night, Xu Wenyu got so drunk she could barely stand.

Her new secretary didn't know about their relationship. She found "Hubby" in Xu Wenyu's call list, called him, got the address, and brought Xu Wenyu there.

Seeing his cold face, Xu Wenyu thought she was dreaming and started kicking and hitting him. The man stood unmoving, letting her vent her feelings.

Then he saw the marks on the side of her neck, and Gu Yuan's gaze grew darker.

"Did he do that?"

Xu Wenyu was barely conscious. She nodded at random.

Before she could open her eyes, a familiar yet unfamiliar presence pressed down on her.

He only let her go once her lips were numb and swollen.

"Was he as good at it as I am?"

Xu Wenyu answered honestly, "I forgot."

Gu Yuan's big hand clasped the back of her neck, his thumb quietly rubbing the mark.

"I don't mind helping you remember."
