An invitation from a Lisbon publishing house gave Shi Tong the chance to live in the city for three months.

During those three months, however, she had to write a novel to promote tourism in Lisbon.

Looking forward to the novelty of a foreign land, Shi Tong happily set off.

Except...

Lisbon was so boring it left her depressed.

One night in Lisbon, when she was so listless she felt restless, Shi Tong received an unexpected message.

The sender... was her ex-boyfriend.

Her first love from nearly twenty years ago.

"Want to meet up?" he asked. "Right here in Lisbon."

At Lisbon Airport, as Shi Tong was leaving, her ex-boyfriend gave her a book:

The Book of Disquiet, by Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa.

It was halfway through the flight before Shi Tong thought to read the book to pass the time.

A slip of paper suddenly fell out.

It was written in Shi Tong's childish handwriting from middle school.
