“All I have to do is teach you to become the world’s greatest assassin: the Hour named ‘Rainbow’s Sun.’”
On June 18, when he was fourteen, Reborn, who had grown up in a monastery, met the person fate had chosen for him.
The mysterious young man who had taken out the whole monastery introduced himself as Sawada Tsunayoshi. He said he would be Reborn’s tutor, adopted him as his son, gave him a new name, and brought him to the Vongola estate.
The Dying Will Flame, kindled by willpower; Box Weapons, unlike anything he had ever heard of; and extraordinary companion pets.
The Hours, who held the power of life and death; the world’s cyclical rules; and, most importantly, the Mansus, seemingly present in every corner of the world yet as if it had never existed.
A magnificent, legendary new world, unlike anything he could have imagined, unfolded before Reborn. He couldn’t help feeling moved by it, but...
Scarecrow, a would-be xenomorph with an ax embedded in his skull and blood pouring out, who turned around to find his guardian and cry about being bullied.
Mammon, a spellcaster so outrageous that even a miser would gape and Sherlock would feel outdone. At the edge of life and death, he still wouldn’t save a teammate unless they paid him.
Veldy, who looked down on everyone indiscriminately, called himself the reincarnation of Da Vinci, and aimed to create a perpetual motion machine, only to actually make something sort of work. A crackpot scientist extraordinaire.
Fon, soft-spoken and steeped in tea, always playing the peacemaker and kind soul, though on closer inspection he seemed never to succeed. Was he a genuinely good person or just someone who loved the drama?
The ideal partners, Colonnello and Lal Mirch: uninhibited in conversation, ruthless when killing, well-versed in espionage and special forces tactics, and seemingly hardened by a sea of bloodshed.
...Were there too many weirdos in this estate? No, the real question was...
“Wait. Why have you adopted six other children? Hm? Daddy, do you tell every one of them, ‘You’re my one and only precious treasure’?”
Reborn looked around at all the strange characters and narrowed his eyes. He saw Sawada Tsunayoshi cough and look away.
Sawada Tsunayoshi tried to defend himself. “That’s not true! I may have more than one student, Reborn, but you’re definitely the one I favor most!”
Reborn nodded. “I understand. That’s what every parent says to get out of trouble.”
Sawada Tsunayoshi told Reborn that their world was incomplete. Their goal was to recover the twenty-one Cornerstones inscribed with the world’s rules before the Mansus consumed reality, and to find the Hours who carried them, awakening their memories across multiple histories.
It sounded reasonable, but Reborn frowned. His strong sense of danger made him ask, “What about you?”
“What?”
“Sawada Tsunayoshi, what’s your goal?”
“To take you all home.”
The inscrutable teacher answered without hesitation. The young assassin wanted to ask more, but the next moment, the hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
He heard Sawada Tsunayoshi say, “Come to think of it, I think I forgot to clean the estate today. I accidentally let a few rats sneak in. Reborn, have you found anything strange in the estate?”
It was a statement, not a question.
At the same time, the black words on the mysterious note he had seen by his bedside that morning came to mind.
[Be careful. This estate is an Exigent Rite by a deceased Hour, an attempt to overturn the world.]
[Never, ever trust the estate’s manager, or you will all suffer a fate worse than death.]
The world has three great taboos of the Sky Shell Rainbow, and seven great principles: Sun, Lightning, Storm, Rain, Cloud, Mist, and Sky.
These are axioms known to everyone in the world, but...
The unheard-of Vongola estate,
The Millefiore family, mentioned in only a handful of records,
And the strange, shifting urban legends scattered throughout the estate, seemingly pieced together, whose reality cannot be determined, along with the fragments of worlds behind them.
Sawada Tsunayoshi, are you the mastermind behind all of this?
Or...
My dear teacher, when the day comes that the truth is revealed, how will I face you?
