The Last Snowy Night of 1944

A frontier girl x a student at Southwest Associated University

A female translator x a rich young master

At eighteen, Nianzhi lived among the vast snowy mountains on the frontier. She had a little wooden cabin and a carefree life. One day, as the sun was setting, she found an injured young man.

He was badly hurt, but he sure had a lot to say.

Always going on about war, idealism, and all sorts of lofty sentiments.

Nianzhi: I don't really want to talk to him. What's he mumbling about? I'll take him in for now, for the money.

The young man taught her to read and write, and showed her how to use a blade.

In the pitch-black nights, with the unmoving stars shining through the wind, he told her about the world beyond. Slowly, she found him less annoying.

Later, heavy snow sealed off the mountains, and he died in the prime of his life.

As he died, he still clutched a peacock feather he hadn't had the chance to give her.

At twenty-five, Nianzhi was a translator in Shanghai. As she walked through the bustling city, she held an umbrella and crossed the vast darkness alone.

She met someone who looked like the young man.

He was no longer full of youthful ambition. He'd been steeped in the decadence of the Shanghai concessions. He was nothing like that idealistic young man, and he no longer remembered her.

Her mission was to get close to this young man who resembled someone from her past.

Then kill him with her own hands.

"If one day I become someone else..."

"If they break my spirit and make me forget the ideals I once held. If that day comes, remember to kill me cleanly. Let me remain frozen in the best years of my life, forever untarnished in your memory."

"My ideals will live on forever, and so will my love for you."

Guide: Both are each other's first and only, happy ending.

An alternate-history Republican-era story, the second in a series about ordinary people. The male lead never loses his memory.
