Seeing Qing

The summer of 2000. The cicadas were louder than ever.

Lin Jianqing wore his faded school uniform and rode his clattering old bicycle through the familiar streets of his small town, day after day.

His plans for life were simple and clear: study hard and get into college.

Then one midsummer afternoon, beneath a magnolia tree dappled with shade, he met Jiang Qingchuan, the transfer student in a trendy T-shirt with a radiant smile, who barged into his orderly life without warning.

From then on, two figures sat side by side in the quiet library.

The sunset by the river witnessed the first stirrings of a boy's heart.

Beneath the summer night's starry sky, a confession too timid to be spoken aloud was hidden in a portable music player.

When summer ended, Jiang Qingchuan left.

A year later, at the new-student welcome desk of a university in the provincial capital:

"Hey, are you interested in photography?"

A familiar voice, smiling, fell by Lin Jianqing's ear.

Lin Jianqing turned abruptly, his gaze meeting a pair of smiling eyes.

The person stood in the September sunshine, their smile still bright enough to make his heart flutter.

Jiang Qingchuan walked closer, his gaze burning. "This time, I'm not here to be your friend."

"Jianqing, I'm here to love you."

This time, they held on tight to each other, never to part again.

1. Sweet romance.

2. A sweet story. The top left to attend his final year of high school in the city, and they stayed in touch the whole time.
