Freya is a Grim Reaper. Her job is to escort the dead to the world beyond, and to clear out any souls that turn into evil spirits along the way.
As a Grim Reaper, she should not have much to do with humans.
But then she met a human she really hated: a well-mannered scoundrel with an inverted cross tattooed on his forehead.
The man looked harmless, but was actually the leader of a vicious criminal gang. He led a pack of flashy delinquents, first taking over her base in the mortal world, then wreaking havoc in her territory and sending her workload through the roof.
Freya was furious. She swore she would teach the criminal boss a lesson he would never forget.
So when she caught him hitting on a young woman, she marched right over and slapped him hard.
She had meant to play the part of a man's real girlfriend catching him cheating in public and beating him into a pulp, ruining his date in the process.
But when he came to his senses, he grabbed her wrist and called her by name.
Freya promptly slapped him again.
After taking two slaps, the man did not get angry. Instead, he pulled out a book, opened it, and smiled at her.
"Freya, now that you're back, I won't let you leave again."
Chrollo had a secret no one knew: he once had a real girlfriend.
Not a fling, but a proper relationship.
Unfortunately, in their third year together, his girlfriend died, and he was the one who caused her death.
Did he regret it?
Of course not.
Yet every night, as he drifted into sleep, the girl's face grew clearer and clearer in his mind.
Until one day, the girl stood before him, safe and sound, and slapped him furiously.
His first reaction was to grab her and never let go.
His second reaction: What should he do now that his girlfriend had caught him hitting on another girl? Would she be so angry that she would never speak to him again?
The answer, of course, was to take her back and lock her up first, then sweet-talk her at his leisure.
The base was haunted.
Everyone started having inexplicable nightmares at night, dreaming of a long-haired female ghost chasing them with a katana.
Shalnark dreamed the ghost split his computer in half with one slash. When he woke, he found his computer tower smashed.
Feitan dreamed the ghost kicked his game console away. When he woke, he found his game saves had been erased.
Then one day, their leader brought a young woman back from outside.
Everyone was shocked to find that she looked exactly like the female ghost in their dreams!
