After the Failed Assassination of the Crown Prince

Wa Yin was bribed by the Empress Dowager and accepted a mission to assassinate the Crown Prince.

The courtesan of the Wanhua House transformed overnight into the newly appointed head palace maid in the Eastern Palace.

Wa Yin had suffered a serious illness when she was young, and the fever had damaged her mind. She had lost all her memories from before she went to the Wanhua House, and was a little slow besides. She never understood why the Empress Dowager had chosen her to assassinate the Crown Prince.

As far as she knew, the Crown Prince was violent and cruel, and would behead people at the slightest provocation. She was afraid.

But the Empress Dowager said, "The greatest cunning looks like clumsiness. When everything is a flaw, nothing is a flaw."

Later, atop the towering city walls, on a morning after a night of rain, under the newly risen sun, her plain white skirt fluttered in the wind. The new emperor's anguished cries became the most glorious image of life in her brief existence.
