It was the 240th year of the Gale Empire, the second year of Qingtai, February 16th. The two sides set up battle formations outside Luzhou City to prepare for a decisive battle. The imperial army's strength was distributed as follows: "Thirty thousand troops were left to guard Luzhou City and protect the emperor's safety. Then Wang Jilang led 120,000 troops as the left army, Yue Pingchuan led his 300,000 troops as the middle army, and Guo Yuebo led his 120,000 troops as the right army. The military commander Cui Yaozu appointed by the puppet emperor Ning was as follows: Hedong Jiedushi Lu Jiang led 50,000 cavalry as the left army, Cangzhou Jiedushi Ou Yanggang led 50,000 cavalry as the right army, and Dingzhou Jiedushi Tan Anzhen led 100,000 troops as the rear army. Everyone knows that this is a key battle that determines the fate of the Gale Empire. No one can afford to lose, because the cost of failure is too unbearable. Yue Pingchuan commanded his Chinese army to launch the attack first. He placed the archers in the army at the front of the battle line, and then ordered the archers to spread out and begin to advance in a loose formation, while the pikemen behind him remained in place. Dingzhou Jiedushi's Chinese army in Tan'an Town also dispatched archery troops in the same way, and the pikemen behind them kept their lines in place. However, the only difference was that the archery troops in Tan'an Town did not use a loose formation, but moved forward in a normal line. After reaching the shooting range of the bows of both sides, the archers of both sides began to shoot at each other. As we all know, when the archers shoot at each other, stretching the formation and spreading out the formation can effectively reduce the probability of being shot. When the archers of both sides are shooting at each other, the archers in a loose formation will definitely have an advantage over the troops that do not adopt a loose formation. Not only was the commander of this archery unit confused, but even Yue Pingchuan, who was watching the battle behind him, was also confused. Could it be that the northern army was only proficient in cavalry hedging and not proficient in battle formations? The archer units of both sides fought against each other, and there was really no suspense about the outcome. The archer units in Tan'an Town of Dingzhou Jiedu suffered heavy losses, but after holding on for less than two minutes, several archer phalanxes began to retreat. By the third minute, seven or eight archer phalanxes began to retreat. They heard their archer commander desperately shouting and giving orders to stabilize their formation. However, these people still ran back without looking back. Yue Pingchuan, the leader of the Huainan army, seized the opportunity and sent 3,000 cavalry troops out of the gap to chase the fleeing archers. Dingzhou Jiedushi Tan Anzhen also followed suit and sent cavalry troops to pursue the enemy archers. After seeing the enemy cavalry troops dispatched, the archer troops on both sides began to retreat behind the commander's order, seeking cover from the pikemen. The cavalry troops on both sides seemed to be deliberately avoiding the other side, one rushing from the left and the other from the right. The three thousand cavalry troops sent by Tan Anzhen, the governor of Dingzhou, slaughtered the archers who had not retreated back to the pikemen's line. Since these people were in a loose formation when the cavalry attacked, they were directly overwhelmed by a charge. They had no choice but to refuse the centurion's order to assemble and began to flee. Then they were chased and hacked to death from behind by the cavalry behind them. However, the 3,000 cavalry troops sent by Yue Pingchuan, the commander of Huainan's army, did not repeat this kind of performance. Instead, they were severely beaten. It turned out that the archers arranged by Tan'an Town deliberately did not arrange themselves in a loose formation and pretended to retreat. When the 3,000 cavalry troops sent by Yue Pingchuan were about to rush over, they secretly attacked them. Bag after bag of caltrops were scattered on the ground in front of the cavalry, and then they took out the weapons from their waists and began to form a formation behind them. The three thousand cavalry sent by Yue Pingchuan thought that these people were fools and dared to use a phalanx of bows and arrows to resist the charge of the cavalry, so they rushed forward unprepared and did not notice the caltrops scattered on the ground. When the first row of charging cavalry approached, some sharp-eyed people saw the black caltrops on the ground, but it was impossible for the horses to stop at such a fast speed and could only be passively carried by the horses. Most of the remaining people were focused on the enemy and did not notice the caltrops on the ground. As a result, after rushing up, the cavalry's horses' hooves stepped hard on the long spikes of the caltrops. The war horses suddenly suffered unbearable pain. The injured front legs lost their strength, and their bodies lost their balance and fell to the ground. The cavalry on them also fell to the ground. Some unfortunate horses even had the caltrops stuck in their stomachs after falling, and they suddenly started bleeding. Cavalry charges are all about speed, and once they start charging, it is difficult to stop. These fallen horses quickly become obstacles for the people behind them, and they also trip the cavalry behind them to the ground. Many people fell off the horses and broke their necks immediately. The horses and the cavalry who were lucky enough to survive were not so lucky, and they were quickly trampled to death by the cavalry rushing up from behind after a second or two. But soon these fallen cavalry could not become a roadblock, because they were trampled into flesh by the cavalry behind them. The iron caltrops were severely covered by the corpses of the dead horses and people, and the cavalry behind them rushed over. But the same tragedy happened again. A small number of cavalry who rushed to the front of the archer phalanx were unable to fight with four hands, and were chopped to death by a group of people. When the cavalry realized something was wrong, more than half of them were dead and wounded. With the help of the corpses of their teammates, they stopped the charge and began to retreat. Tan Anzhen asked his men to wave the flag and send out a signal, so the archers picked up the iron caltrops on the ground and began to chase forward. The three thousand cavalry sent by Tan'an Town finally rushed in front of the spearmen's phalanx after killing many archers who had not fled back. The spearmen of the Central Army of Yue Pingchuan quickly raised their spears to prepare for the charge of these cavalry. However, they did not launch an attack. Instead, they used their superb riding skills to quickly turn their horses and charge towards the fleeing Yue Pingchuan's cavalry. These cavalry had just been defeated, and now they were attacked by the cavalry phalanx, and suffered even more casualties. They were forced to fight. But what was desperate was that when the cavalry was holding them back, the archers from Tan'an Town also caught up and attacked them from behind. Under the attack from both sides, these cavalry were quickly defeated. Only a few dozen of the three thousand cavalry fled back... For a while, the entire battlefield was silent. The military commanders on the imperial side, Yue Pingchuan, Wang Jilang, Guo Yuebo and others, did not expect that Cui Yaozu's troops were so powerful. In less than half an hour, the entire three thousand cavalry army was wiped out. This was only the first round of the confrontation between the two armies, and everyone suddenly felt a huge pressure. Even if the imperial army had nearly twice as many troops as the other side, there was no guarantee that Cui Yaozu's troops could be defeated. No one thought that all this was under the command of Tan Anzhen. Before, they thought that Murong Zijun was old and couldn't fight. No matter how they directed and divided their troops, they still wouldn't be able to kill all the more than 200,000 pigs. Even if they just stood and let the enemy cut them with a knife, they wouldn't be able to kill all the 200,000 pigs. Understand, it is not that the veteran Murong Zijun is not good, but that Cui Yaozu is too strong. When I followed him in the battles in the early years, I did not think he was very powerful. I always thought that he relied on the large number of soldiers in his hands to inflict fatal blows to the Khitans in the north, the Khotanese in the west, and the Tubo people on the plateau. Now it seems that their former boss, Cui Guogong, is worthy of being the queen of generals. A family with a profound heritage in military arts. The former is called a general and the latter is called a commander. It can be said that Cui Yaozu, who commands hundreds of thousands of troops, is the most deserving military strategist in this era! Can I really defeat such an opponent? I stood on the wall of Luzhou and watched what was happening below. I was as shocked as seeing an ox flying into the sky. It turned out that the troops could still be used in this way. Yue Pingchuan adjusted his mentality and ordered the troops to press forward. The veteran Wang Jilang and Guo Yuebo saw that the center army began to press forward, and they also ordered the spearmen phalanx to advance. Tan Anzhen originally wanted the cavalry to retreat and let the archer troops come forward to fire a few more rounds to consume more of the enemy. However, Cui Yaozu, the general of the world's soldiers and horses, waved the flag and ordered him to withdraw the cavalry and archers together. The spearmen also began to march forward. Without any hesitation, Tan Anzhen decisively carried out the order of the general of the world's soldiers and horses, Cui Yaozu, and ordered the cavalry troops to withdraw together with the archers. The phalanx of spearmen from both sides quickly marched together and began to stab each other with their two-meter-long spears. Thick spears came over like dense bamboo forests. For a while, there were constant screams in the formations of both sides. Often the soldier stabbed the enemy in front with a spear, and was stabbed to death by another enemy soldier. The fallen soldier was quickly filled by the soldiers behind him, and a new round of stabbings began. The soldiers in the first row barely survived for less than two minutes, and the soldiers in the second row filled in. At this time, the two sides were competing for their will to fight. To see who dared to launch more attacks on this meat grinder-like spear phalanx. Soon, the first batch of spear phalanx soldiers began to collapse after suffering 40% casualties, and the spear phalanx soldiers behind them consciously opened a path in the middle to let them escape. Sword-and-shield soldiers with short swords are completely useless against such a large-scale spear phalanx, because before your weapon reaches the opponent, the enemy's spear has already stabbed you. If you are lucky, you block it with your shield, and the other person's second shot comes before you are in front of him. Therefore, the spear is known as the king of weapons. It is because of its long attack range and quick use. Whether it is a novice or an experienced player, a spear with a long attack range can always gain a great advantage in fighting each other until the evening. In this battle, the imperial army suffered 34,000 casualties (more than 6,000 archers died, more than 3,000 cavalry died, and 25,000 pikemen died). Marshal Cui Yaozu's army under the puppet emperor suffered 26,000 casualties (including more than 2,000 archers, 200 cavalry, and 24,000 pikemen). At night, soldiers from both sides were clearing the battlefield with torches, carrying their own corpses, taking the opportunity to see if anyone was alive, and taking them back to the wounded soldiers camp. Although the soldiers on both sides were wearing weapons, they did not attack each other and kill each other's wounded soldiers as if they had agreed. The two waves of people who were still fighting each other brutally during the day would even lend a hand to help carry the corpses when the other party could not move them. No matter which party the living person fell in the pile of corpses, as long as they were thirsty and wanted to drink water, they would take off the water bottles, hold them to each other's mouths, and feed them to drink, without caring about the filth of the other party. If it weren't for this damn battle for the throne, how could they of the same race fight together. The 240th year of the Gale Empire, the second year of the Qing Dynasty, February 17th. After yesterday's battle, the armies of both sides lined up again. This time, the imperial troops learned to keep a distance of more than fifty meters from the rear spearmen. After eight or nine rounds of shooting, the spearmen phalanx of both sides came behind them and began to move forward. They quickly stopped shooting and began to move backwards to provide space for the spearmen phalanx. Once again, the spearmen phalanx of both sides collided with each other and thrust their spears into each other's bodies. After experiencing yesterday's brutal battle, these soldiers who may not have paid much attention to the coordination of the military formations began to try their best to keep in line with their teammates and cooperate with each other. Soldiers from both sides were still filling the flesh mill with new corpses. As before, more than half of them were dead and wounded. The soldiers of the spearmen phalanx began to flee backwards, and the soldiers behind them still made room for them. The supervising team behind them did not attack them, but let them run backwards. After all, this was not a big rout. Those who were killed today and were lucky enough to survive would be organized into a new spearmen phalanx and sent to the battlefield tomorrow. And can they still be as lucky as they are today?
