In the chaotic final years of the Qing dynasty, Pang Qingyun, Zhao Erhu, and Jiang Wuyang swear brotherhood and join the army, united by a common goal. They distinguish themselves in battle, but as their positions rise, so do their ambitions and disagreements. Against a backdrop of deceit at court and corruption in the government, the three brothers ultimately turn on and kill one another because of ambition and misunderstanding.
