Back to 1982: The Last Mountain Hunter in Northeast China

[Period setting + mountain ginseng gathering + hunting in the mountains + doting dad and husband + one heroine + no saintly do-gooding]

Reborn in the bitter winter of 1982, with howling winds and blizzards sealing off the mountains, Chen Changbai, a ruthless tycoon worth hundreds of billions in his previous life, opens his eyes to find a shaman and his uncle pinning down his desperate wife, trying to take away their four-year-old daughter, who is critically ill with a high fever, to “bring good fortune by sacrificing her to the mountain”!

Seeing the wife and daughter he had wronged for forty years in his previous life, Chen Changbai, eyes bloodshot, grabs the heavy wood-splitting axe by the door and bursts in! He kicks the shaman so hard her front teeth break, then smashes the threshold with his axe to terrify the entire village!

When his awful relatives pressure him to divide the family and cut off their food, Chen Changbai sneers and puts it in writing: “The whole eight-hundred-li Changbai Mountain is my backyard! If the King of Hell dares come for anyone, I’ll skin him alive too!”

Armed with the [Mountain God Seal] and the orthodox legacy of mountain travelers stretching back a thousand years, he treks into the deep mountains through the snow, breaks the yellow weasel’s illusions, and harvests a four-li, six-leaf ginseng king! He battles wolves, hunts a four-hundred-jin wild boar, wipes out an armed poaching gang, and tames the spirit mastiff Dahei!

He sells the old ginseng for a fortune, then buys a sturdy bicycle, fine rice, and white flour for their thatched cottage. The aroma of pork stewed with vermicelli fills the whole village! He leases the barren mountains of Wildman’s Ravine, discovers a medicinal herb valley with geothermal greenhouses, and builds the village’s first house with blue bricks and roof tiles.

While his awful relatives are still fighting over a few thin strips of farmland, Chen Changbai already has a fortune in hand. He becomes the county’s first ten-thousand-yuan household and makes his wife and daughter the happiest people in the world!
