Beheaded from the Start, I Was Forced to Marry a Ghost Bride

The Heavenly Dao mutated, and the Evil God Tianzhu usurped its authority. The laws of heaven and earth collapsed, vengeful ghosts ran rampant, monsters wreaked havoc, and every night in Yuning City, ghosts sang opera to claim lives.

I was once the Liu family’s live-in son-in-law. On the day my entire family was sentenced to execution, I was beheaded in public.

My head rolled across the snowy ground. As my soul teetered on the edge of oblivion, a long, sinister red cord suddenly wrapped around it.

Paper figures carried a sedan chair, its red canopy suspended in midair. My fiancée, Liu Yuning, had long been separated from her head, which had been sewn back onto her neck with needle and thread. Dressed in her wedding gown amid the wind and snow, she held my memorial tablet and forced me to marry her in a ceremony before the gates of the underworld.

To escape my ghost wife’s soul-binding, I possessed the body of Gu Yanchen, a down-and-out scholar, and was reborn. But I discovered that the living have three yang lamps, and I was born missing one. An evil presence clung to my left shoulder year-round. If my lamp went out, I would die within three days, and I was also being forced to take the stage at the opera house south of the city to sing the Song of Soul Departure.

The faceless old man in gray who secretly taught me talismans to suppress evil, the ghost woman from my school who snuffed out lamps to claim lives, my ghost wife Liu Yuning, who schemed against me at every turn... Everyone was pushing me into the same trap.

At last, I realized: this deadly ghost marriage, the lamp that marked me for death, and the monsters running rampant throughout the city were never the work of ghosts or demons.

The Heavenly Dao, corrupted by Tianzhu, had set its sights on my extraordinary soul, burdened with the karma of three lifetimes.

My ghost wife seemed like an obsessive lover, but from beginning to end, she was working in perfect concert with a higher power, step by step ensnaring me.

Only later did I understand:

It wasn’t me she was pursuing.

It was my one-of-a-kind soul, singled out by the corrupted Heavenly Dao for harvesting.

The beheading was the beginning, the ghost marriage a prison. The calamity that would engulf the world for a thousand years had already fallen upon me.

My ghost wife was a pawn, and the ghost marriage a shackle. From the moment I was beheaded, there was no escape from this thousand-year calamity that would rewrite the laws of heaven and earth.
