Beacon-Fire Rifle

In October 1937, Japanese troops trampled into Shandong. Twenty-year-old hunter Zhang Lingchuan's family was slaughtered. Carrying a blood debt, he vanished into the mountains with his ancestral hunting rifle and peerless marksmanship, making lone Japanese patrols disappear without a trace. He earned the fearsome name "Ghost Gun of the Haunted Mountain."

During an ambush, he was gravely wounded. At the brink of death, he was saved by eighteen-year-old Xu Ruoyan, whose family had also been destroyed. She knew medicinal herbs and was gentle on the outside, yet strong-willed within. In an abandoned hut belonging to the Xu family, she tended him with care. As they confided in each other about the nation's suffering and their family vendettas, their hearts gradually drew close.

After he recovered, Zhang Lingchuan's rifle and Xu Ruoyan's swift horse became a team. He remained the reaper of the forest, while she became the "White Plume Scout," luring the enemy and gathering intelligence. By chance, the two rescued a white wolf. The pair, their two horses, and the wolf moved together and apart, striking terror into the Japanese. She used her singing to lure enemies into a trap, while he picked them off with deadly precision; she rode swiftly to relay messages, while he set lethal ambushes at mountain passes. Across southern Shandong, Japanese supply convoys were repeatedly raided, and sentries were silently eliminated. Panic spread, and the legend of the "Phantom Riders" kept enemy troops awake at night.

Beneath a blood-red sunset, the two rode side by side toward their next battlefield. Behind them lay their homes in flames; ahead, a debt of vengeance yet to be repaid. Their guns and horses were the unyielding spirit of a chaotic age.
