Wartime Republican China: From Landlord's Son to Anti-Japanese General

In 1924, modern man Wang Junshan’s soul transmigrates to the Republican era, where he becomes the spoiled young master of a landlord family in Lujiang County.

When he opens his eyes, he faces the approaching flames of the Northern Expedition, a warlord free-for-all, and, fourteen years later, the unprecedented catastrophe that will destroy his country and people.

Knowing how history will unfold, he has only one thought: survive, and help more people survive.

He persuades his father to send him to a military academy. After returning home, he uses bandit suppression as a pretext to buy guns and grain, secretly building an armed force. When the Northern Expeditionary Army arrives, he joins up and distinguishes himself in battle. Principal Chiang offers him high office and wealth, but he asks only for the designation of an “independent battalion.” What he wants is a spark he can control himself.

From the Defense of the Great Wall to the Battle of Shanghai, from the Defense of Wuhan to the expedition to Burma, his troops appear on the most desperate battlefields like firefighters rushing to contain a blaze. He takes in refugees, shelters the loyal and brave, and punishes corruption, forging a disciplined army with modern military principles.

He knows the tide of history cannot be reversed, but he will make sure that everyone who follows him lives a little longer and walks with a little more dignity before dawn arrives.

This is the story of one man’s struggle, and the fiery song of a whole company of people. Where the flames of war spread across the land, the mountains and rivers still endure.
