The Windswept Late Tang

In 907 CE, after 289 years of glory, the Tang Empire collapsed with a crash. The warlord Zhu Wen usurped the throne and founded his own dynasty, ushering in the bloody and chaotic Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.

Zhang Chengye, a modern military officer, unexpectedly falls into this age of crumbling order and becomes a low-ranking soldier in the Hedong Army. In a chaotic era when human lives are worth less than grass, he must face both hidden dangers on the battlefield and political intrigues at court.

From Taiyuan to Bianliang, from Youzhou to Luoyang, he witnesses the struggles of countless people:

Li Cunxu swears vengeance with the three arrows his father left him, only to lose himself in pleasure after achieving fame and success;

Feng Dao serves four dynasties, upholding his principle of governing for the sake of “saving the people from fire and water” amid the chaos;

Wang Yanzhang still wields his iron spear, but cannot stem the collapse of the Later Liang;

Shi Jingtang, to seize the throne, is willing to cede the Yan and Yun regions and call himself the “son emperor.”

In an age when heroes and ambitious warlords rise side by side, what will Zhang Chengye choose? Will he go with the flow, or defy fate and change his destiny?
