Xue Dingshan's New Expedition West

Synopsis of Xue Dingshan’s Campaign to the West

Rebellions erupt in the Tang dynasty’s Western Regions, and eighteen-year-old Xue Dingshan is entrusted with command of the western campaign at a time of crisis. His journey is fraught with danger. At Hanjing Pass, he fights the female general Fan Lihua in a fierce battle; their martial skills are evenly matched, and they admire one another, yet the old enmity between their clans leaves them torn between love and loyalty. The mysterious strategist “Ghost Valley Xuanji” repeatedly devises ingenious battle formations, and his identity is bound up in a twenty-year feud with the Xue family.

Xue Dingshan braves the desert, explores ancient cities, wins over foreign generals, and breaks strange formations, all while struggling to choose between the truth and his family. Just as peace returns to the Western Regions, Chang’an is thrown into turmoil: Emperor Taizong dies, and Empress Wu takes power. His achievements become a source of suspicion, while his marriage is swept into the political storm. When all is settled, the white-haired couple gaze at the blood-red setting sun, as the cries of the next generation’s Xue Gang already shake the house. A new storm is brewing.

This epic, told in the style of traditional storytelling, unfolds across four hundred thousand words. It brings together battlefield heroics, tender romance, and the feuds of family and country, then stops at a moment of suspense, leaving a lasting aftertaste.
