Peach Blossom Haven in Troubled Times

At the end of the Southern Song dynasty, Yuan armies advance south and the realm is thrown into chaos. Yet deep in the mountains at the source of the Shanxi River lies a peaceful, hidden refuge. At first, barely more than a hundred people live there, beyond the reach of the authorities. Later, descendants of Shi Jin, the Nine-Tattooed Dragon, move there to live in seclusion. Their families grow until the settlement numbers a thousand, and they establish Taoyuan Town in a flat mountain valley.

After Ma Biao, a bandit leader from Mount Siming, is defeated by the Song army and then pursued by Yuan forces, he flees in panic to Taoyuan Town and seizes it. Soon afterward, Song general Wang Lianfa is also defeated by the Yuan and retreats into town with his troops. Wang Lianfa's men join forces with the local villagers to kill Ma Biao and his bandits, planning to farm the land and hold out there for the long term. But then their superior, Shi Lei, arrives with the remnants of his own forces and takes over Taoyuan Town, behaving even worse than the bandits and leaving the townsfolk in dire straits.

At this critical moment, skilled fighters including Liu Junchi and Xu Wangshu descend from the mountain. They kill Shi Lei and drive out the Yuan forces, finally restoring peace to Taoyuan Town.
