Siheyuan: Rising to Greatness After Being Assigned to the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Ding Niansheng, a materials scientist from the 21st century, transmigrates to the capital in 1949 and becomes an orphan raised by a courtyard rickshaw puller. Thinking of the technological blockades his country will face in the future, as well as the looming Korean War, he is spurred to work hard. He gets into Shuimu University, and after graduating is assigned to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he advances the country's materials science and indirectly promotes the development of other fields of technology. During the Korean War, he improves metal materials and enhances weapon performance. During the First Five-Year Plan, he takes charge of research and development on several key national technologies. While the courtyard's beasts are still fighting tooth and nail over petty gains, he has already become a pillar of the nation and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
