The Day I Got Out of Prison, My Wife Asked Me to Accept Her Son as My Godson

After serving ten years in prison, Lin Yuan is released. But instead of the warmth of a family reunited, he finds a world he barely recognizes and a cold divorce agreement from his wife, Su Qing. Even more absurdly, Su Qing wants him to become the "godfather" to her ten-year-old adopted son, Xiaochen, and get along with her "friend," Chen Hao, a successful businessman.

Lin Yuan initially wants to refuse this humiliating arrangement, but realizes he has nothing left. Desperate for somewhere to live, he is forced to move into his ex-wife's basement, cautiously lingering at the edge of this newly assembled family under the ridiculous title of "Xiaochen's godfather." By day, he does menial work at Chen Hao's company and endures the mockery of his former colleagues. At night, he lives in the basement, listening to the laughter of the "family of three" overhead as he tends to his wounds.

Yet this seemingly stable "new family" is riddled with hidden tensions. Xiaochen harbors an astonishing secret, Su Qing's eyes often betray unease, and behind the perfect Mr. Chen Hao's smile seems to lurk a deep shadow. Lin Yuan also discovers that the accident that changed his life ten years ago was no simple mishap. It was a carefully planned conspiracy, and the real culprit is still at large, possibly right by his side.

At first, Lin Yuan tries to escape. Then, to uncover the truth, he swallows his pride and stays, forced to navigate a world of humiliation and hardship alongside enemies from his past, unfamiliar "family members," and a hostile world. He must not only reclaim the life that was stolen from him and clear his name, but also, as he protects Xiaochen and comes to see Su Qing in a new light, begin to understand the complexity of human nature and try to build something for himself and those around him atop the ruins
