The Wicked Mother-in-Law's Harassment

Lin Wei is a talented woman from a once-prominent family. To save her family's business, she is forced to marry into the powerful Gu family and become the wife of its heir, Gu Jinchuan. But the marriage awaiting her is no fairy tale. Instead, she faces endless torment from her mother-in-law, Shen Mingzhen, her husband's cold indifference, and the schemes lurking behind the family's wealth.

From the very start of the marriage, Shen Mingzhen uses “the Gu family rules” as an excuse to deprive Lin Wei of financial independence and the right to socialize, even keeping her under constant surveillance. Gu Jinchuan spends long stretches away and ignores her, but when Lin Wei unexpectedly becomes pregnant, the Gu family's attitude toward her changes dramatically. It turns out the child she carries is the “heir” they truly care about.

Before long, however, Lin Wei discovers even deeper secrets behind the marriage:

Her husband's betrayal: Gu Jinchuan has had a long-term mistress for years, and may even be planning to “get rid of” Lin Wei after she becomes pregnant.

Her mother-in-law's schemes: Shen Mingzhen controls the Gu family's finances and is implicated in the embezzlement of enormous sums. Lin Wei's father, it turns out, has a hidden history of enmity with her.

Her aunt's help: Gu Qingya, Gu Jinchuan's aunt, secretly provides crucial evidence that helps Lin Wei see the Gu family for what it really is, but she seems to have her own agenda as well...

In the Gu family's “snake pit,” Lin Wei gradually goes from meekly accepting her lot to overcoming force with gentleness and turning others' influence to her advantage. She uses her pregnancy to fight for freedom and secretly gathers evidence of the Gu family's crimes, even beginning to fight back against Shen Mingzhen's control. But as the truth is gradually revealed, the danger she faces becomes ever more deadly. The Gu family will never allow a “disobedient” daughter-in-law to threaten their interests.
