After Thirty Years as the Village Fool, Shen Yan Awakens the Legacy of the Demon Catchers

There’s a fool in Luoxian Village named Shen Yan. For thirty years, he has kept watch by the village’s ancient well, a thousand years old, picking up stones every day to build little piles. Children throw mud at him, and the villagers laugh at him, but nobody knows that his foolish appearance is a disguise his parents created with a secret art to hide his identity as the last heir of the Xuanqing Sect.

Then an influencer’s exploration team disturbs the evil spirit in the well. As a hanging ghost comes to claim his life, the jade pendant on Shen Yan’s chest shatters and his Dao soul awakens! The once-foolish young man’s eyes sharpen in an instant. He picks up a branch, dips it in the well water, and draws a talisman, calling down lightning to blast the evil spirit. His Daoist arts leave the whole village stunned! A black-clad youth named Mo Xuan comes looking for him and becomes his scheming sidekick, teaching him to draw talismans with a marker, nourish his Dao soul with a power bank, and even exorcise spirits remotely with a drone.

But a microchip is hidden inside the evil spirit. When the village chief suddenly “dies by electrocution,” the truth behind his parents’ “accidental deaths” begins to emerge. Everything points to the mysterious Heavenly Dao Alliance. And deep inside the ancient well lies not only a passage between yin and yang, but also the Chaos Evil Pearl, the core of balance among the Three Realms!

Searching for his parents, Shen Yan packs a peachwood sword and a box of cinnabar, then heads into the city with Mo Xuan. He plays the fool to keep his identity hidden, slaps warding talismans on takeout boxes to subdue demons, and uses his phone signal to unleash palm thunder. He slays a financial demon in the CBD and defeats internet wraiths in a livestream, rising from the village idiot to a legendary urban demon hunter!

The righteous are hypocrites, while the wicked hide their honor. An app-based driver turns out to be his undercover uncle, a folklore researcher knows the secret of the Sky-Mending Stone, and even a judge from the underworld secretly helps him in the guise of an antiques dealer. When the Heavenly Dao Alliance uses technology to resurrect an ancient demon god, and the Chaos Evil Pearl collides with modern AI, Shen Yan will finally cast off his disguise, slaughter evil with ten thousand talismans, and use Daoist arts to subdue the Three Realms
