The Storms of Sichuan's Pao Ge Brotherhood

The Brotherhood’s Turbulent Years in Sichuan

The Yangtze flows on, and the bonds of brotherhood endure. Set in Sichuan from the late Ming to the late Qing, this story follows four generations of leaders of the Hall of Righteousness, each steadfastly putting righteousness first. Their ancestor, Li Tieshan, founded the hall to protect immigrants and help them settle. Their great-grandfather, Li Cunyi, took up arms against the Qing and upheld his principles. Their grandfather, Li Zhongyi, rooted out corruption and banned opium, becoming a pillar of central Sichuan. And their generation’s Li Gandang rallied people to protect the railway and fought for the republic.

From underworld brotherhood to the backbone of the common people, and finally to the vanguard of revolution, four generations weather the tides of war, corruption, and foreign aggression. They unite the brotherhood, ordinary folk, and students, protecting Sichuan with their passion and serving their country with unwavering devotion. Together, they compose an epic of Sichuan: “For a hundred years, the flame of righteousness passes from hand to hand; the spirit of Shu endures and shines for a thousand years.”
