The Legend of Mount Buzhou

The Legend of Mount Buzhou is set during the transition from the Shang to the Zhou dynasty and revolves around the secrets of the ancient divine mountain, Mount Buzhou. Legend says that Gonggong angrily struck Mount Buzhou, causing the sky to collapse and the earth to split. In truth, it was a seal forged at the cost of divine essence: he became the wedge that locked away the “Void” left behind when heaven and earth were created.

To save his gravely ill mother, the herb gatherer A Shi ventures deep into Mount Buzhou, where he happens upon the “Soul-Calming Jade” left behind by Gonggong. This draws him into a crisis spanning a thousand years. He meets Qing Mei, who claims to be descended from ancient shamans. She came in search of the “Remnant Stones of the Sky-Mending,” but her quest uncovers an even more shocking truth: Mount Buzhou is the “Lock of Heaven and Earth,” formed from Pangu’s spine, and the remnant stones are both key to the seal and sustenance for the Void.

The two join forces and venture deeper, from the sacrificial altar at the mountain’s broken peak to the chaotic core at the bottom of Guixu. Along the way, they contend with mountain spirits, soul-devouring shadows, and the covetous Shattered Mountain Sect, while facing the spirits of the dead corrupted by the Void. They gradually learn that Gonggong’s lingering soul guards more than just the seal: it also warns that “the Void springs from the greed in human hearts.” Qing Mei’s mission conceals a taboo tied to her shamanic bloodline, while A Shi’s descent from Pangu is the key to balancing the Void.

In the end, A Shi offers himself as a sacrifice, merging his consciousness with the heart of Guixu to establish an eternal balance with the Void. Qing Mei carries the remaining map and its secrets out of the mountains, turning Mount Buzhou’s legend into a warning: respecting heaven and earth is easy; keeping your heart true is the hardest part. Reimagining ancient myths, wrestling with human nature, and bearing the weight of protection, the story unfolds amid supernatural mystery as an echo across a thousand years of sacrifice and inheritance.
