The Hunt Begins: 1937

- Transmigration and adaptation: Ling Chen wakes up after an explosion to find himself in a Shanghai alley engulfed in war. All he has is a rusty dagger and a set of clothes out of place for the era. The System activates and issues its first mission: assassinate a drunken Japanese army major who has gone on a rampage in the foreign concession.

- First hunt: Using the stealth techniques of a modern assassin, Ling Chen evades the concession’s police and Japanese patrols and carries out the killing with his dagger. Unfamiliar with the surroundings, he nearly gives himself away, but is unexpectedly saved by Shen Qing, a Communist underground member posing as a dancer or student. Shaken by the era’s “chaos” and the way “human lives are treated like grass,” he remains wary of Shen Qing’s “meddling.”
