Cheng Wan Shares in the Glory of Battle

When Su Wan'er stood outside the civil affairs bureau with the red marriage certificate in her hand, she still hadn't quite recognized the uniformed man in the photo as her husband, Lu Chengxiao. Their almost “by-the-book” registration meant that she tasted the loneliness of waiting as soon as she entered a military marriage. He rushed to the barracks after an urgent phone call, leaving only a hurried silhouette and a number she could never get through. In the days that followed, she kept their little home running, often staring into the night toward the distant sound of bugle calls. He sweated through training thousands of miles away, and the occasional text he sent always came with the hurried excuse, “Urgent mission.” The wedding photo on their certificate slowly grew familiar. Separated by mountains, seas, and duty, through brief reunions and long waits, they gradually turned the weight of a military marriage into an unspoken longing for each other. This is no sweeping romance, just the story of a soldier’s wife and a serviceman slowly drawing closer while balancing their country and their home.
