Wang Zhudan Transmigrates to the Xia Dynasty

Wang Zhudan, head chef at a star-rated hotel, was caught in a rift in time and space when a stove suddenly exploded as she worked on a new dish late one night. When she opened her eyes again, she was in the wilderness of the Xia Dynasty, more than three thousand years in the past. Wearing a tattered modern chef’s uniform and holding half a charred steel knife, she faced a tribe that ate raw meat and drank blood, a primitive life of slash-and-burn farming, and Si Qi, the chief of the Xia tribe, whose eyes were sharp as an eagle’s and whose presence was icy.

To survive, Wang Zhudan put her remarkable cooking skills to use. She made a hearty wild-vegetable soup in a clay pot, roasted fragrant beast meat over flint, and even brewed sweet-and-sour fruit wine for a sacrificial ceremony, unexpectedly earning the tribe’s respect. Si Qi had initially been wary of this “visitor from beyond the heavens,” but as he tasted her cooking time and again and watched her use her wits to save the tribe from famine, his cold heart gradually thawed in the warmth of her hearth.

As modern cooking techniques meet the ancient civilization of the Xia Dynasty, and an independent, resilient chef encounters a tribal chief with the whole world in his heart, they face one trial after another: floods, sacrifices, and conflicts between tribes. Ladles and bronze swords cross, hearth smoke mingles with the smoke of war, and a love spanning three thousand years slowly begins to unfold with the steam rising from a clay pot.
