Chen Lan Transmigrates and Falls in Love with Ji Chang

Chen Lan, a modern graduate student in history, is swept into a vortex through time and space when she touches an oracle bone fragment etched with strange patterns at the Yinxu Museum. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself in the wilderness of Xiqi, at the end of the Shang dynasty and the beginning of the Zhou. Dressed in rags and speaking a different tongue, she is unexpectedly rescued by Ji Chang, the Marquis of Xibo, who happens to be passing by.

At this time, Ji Chang is not yet King Wen of Zhou. He governs Xiqi with benevolence, but his growing reputation has also aroused the suspicion of the Shang king. Drawing on her knowledge of history, Chen Lan offers suggestions for improving farming, secretly gives Ji Chang advice when he encounters trouble, and, during the seven years he is imprisoned in Youli, helps Bo Yikao and Ji Fa keep the people of Xiqi united with her modern woman's resilience and wisdom.

She knows how Ji Chang's story ends and understands that the Zhou are destined to overthrow the Shang. Yet as they spend day after day together, she falls deeply in love with this man who carries the world in his heart. Ji Chang, too, is moved by Chen Lan's intelligence, courage, and tenderness, so unlike those of anyone from his era. He comes to see her as his sole comfort in a time of chaos. But the gulf between their eras, the relentless march of history, and the bloody turmoil of the Shang-Zhou transition keep tearing at their love across three thousand years. Together, they must face the Shang court's schemes and the rivalries among the lords. Chen Lan must also confront one final question: should she let history run its course and remain a bystander, or risk everything to protect the man she loves and rewrite a fate she already knows?
