My Genius Girlfriend in the Humanities

At Xinghua High School, Lin Wang was hailed as the “light of the sciences,” solving problems at lightning speed and winning countless academic competitions. Xie Zhiyun, a transfer student, was a humanities prodigy whose essays were often held up as model compositions, brimming with literary flair. On the first day of school, Xie Zhiyun was assigned a seat beside Lin Wang under the camphor trees, and their story began. At first, they seemed to belong to different worlds. Then, during math class, Lin Wang helped Xie Zhiyun out of an awkward moment while she was reading Dream of the Red Chamber. After that, he helped her with math, while she talked poetry with him. Their afternoons in the library became a time they often spent together. With the choice between science and humanities tracks approaching, Lin Wang hoped Xie Zhiyun would spend more time catching up in science, but she stood firm in pursuing her dream of studying the humanities. Their disagreement led to a cold war. Later, Xie Zhiyun won an essay prize and Lin Wang took first place in a physics competition. The pride they felt in each other resolved their differences: their dreams were different, but supporting one another made them stronger. Their story of youth is still unfolding this summer, as they walk side by side toward a brighter future.
