We Who Were Chosen by Crime

[Two generations + multiple couples + ensemble cast and growth + happy ending]

After her grandmother fell ill, Song Zhiqin, who had never seen her mother since birth, boarded a long-distance bus to find her for the first time.

The gloomy, cold woman standing before her was nothing like the bright, sunny woman smiling in the yellowed old photograph.

The prodigy her grandmother had praised, a genius doctor renowned at Rende Hospital, broke down and sobbed in a frenzy beside the hospital bed.

She said, “I don’t want to see you, you little bastard.”

In Haicheng, she met all kinds of friends: Xu Shuyan, a gentle and tender ray of sunshine; He Yuan, sweet and obedient, who could put away three bowls of rice in one sitting; Chen Jingming, a younger brother who was all bark and no bite; and Shen An, prickly from having divorced parents...

They met, came to understand each other, and stayed by one another’s side.

They had no idea their fates had been intertwined for more than a decade...
