The City of Rifts: A Multilayered Dream

Gu Ningchuan was an ordinary office worker in a big city, living the same day over and over. Then, after an accident on the subway, he unexpectedly awakened the ability to “read signs,” allowing him to see the anomalies and “rifts” hidden beneath the city. Meanwhile, novelist Ye Shuyao, criminal investigator Xu Yuanfei, urban explorer Qiu Ailin, entrepreneur Zhao Yiheng, and others are drawn into the same series of bizarre events by various twists of fate. Some begin trying to unravel their own predicaments, some do everything they can to uncover the truth, and some seek to control it all. Gradually, what emerges is not only the hidden undercurrent beneath the city, but also the deep fissures in people’s hearts. As their abilities grow and the events become ever more baffling, the five struggle on the edge between reality and illusion, morality and desire, searching for a place to belong in themselves and in the world amid layers of dreams and reality. In the end, can they preserve their humanity and hope on the boundary between urban reality and the impossible anomalies of their imaginations?
