Office for the Management of Abnormal Creatures

Lin Zhou is an ordinary young man barely keeping afloat while running the “Worry-Free Bookstore,” a shop on the verge of closing in Xinghai City. All he wants is to quietly laze around, until he accidentally activates the mysterious “inheritance” left behind by his grandfather: a thing called the “Urban Legend Management System,” dedicated to maintaining the world’s “entropy” balance.

From then on, his life is forcibly switched from “Hard Mode” to “Hell’s Paradise Mode.”

“Beginner mission: Board the last No. 37 bus, which never stops.”

“Intermediate mission: Make the legend of the ‘Person in the Mirror’ disappear from South City University within a week.”

“High-difficulty mission: Contain the out-of-control Class-S anomaly ‘Dream-Eating Tapir’ from the Shadow Council.”

Faced with all manner of bizarre urban legends and mysterious organizations lurking in the city’s shadows, Lin Zhou’s only lifeline is this busted system, which regularly goes haywire and sometimes has a dark sense of humor.

The penalties for failure? Oh, he might lose his ability to perceive color for three days, or birds might inevitably poop on him whenever he goes out. The worst time, he was punished by having to talk to people while standing on his head...

To stay alive, and for the system’s meager rewards, Lin Zhou is forced to go from bookstore owner to legendary “Anomaly Containment Expert,” “Walking Manager of the Gods,” and “Uncrowned King of Xinghai City’s Underworld.”

Still, Lin Zhou often gazes up at the stars and asks himself, “Should I... have sold that lousy book to make rent?”
