Synopsis

This book follows the eventful life of Zhu Yuanzhang, founder of the Ming Dynasty. The story begins in the famine-stricken year of 1344, during the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty. Sixteen-year-old Zhu Chongba loses his family to a plague and is left alone, enduring the hardships faced by ordinary people struggling to survive. He later joins the Red Turban Army and makes a name for himself amid the infighting in Haozhou. He marries Ma Shi, gathers talented people around him, and gradually builds his own power.

Following Zhu Yuanzhang's life, the story vividly recreates his crossing of the Yangtze to seize Yingtian, his fierce battle with Chen Youliang at Lake Poyang, his defeat of Zhang Shicheng and unification of Jiangnan, and his northern campaign to overthrow the Yuan and establish the Great Ming. It also examines in depth his efforts to govern after ascending the throne: establishing institutions, cleaning up officialdom, and consolidating central power. In his later years, he faces complicated choices and anxieties over the meritorious ministers and succession to the throne, foreshadowing the Jingnan Campaign amid the lingering consequences of the Hongwu era. This is a sweeping history of the Hongwu era, rich in both historical depth and storytelling.

Looking for Historical Reaction Stories with a Historically Rigorous Perspective, Thank You

For example, Starting with Emperor Jing’s Reaction Watch. I’d prefer no romance, or a historical figure as the protagonist.
