Shanghai in the Mist

In the turbulent years of 1927, Shanghai is crowded with merchants and shaken by political upheaval. Shen Zhihan, editor-in-chief of a newspaper, crosses paths with detective Han Rushi and celebrated actress Wei Lizhu while investigating a mysterious murder. The three team up from time to time, only to become entangled in a series of baffling cold cases. As they investigate, they gradually uncover a secret buried for ten years, involving power struggles, spies, underground revolutionaries, gangland entanglements, and family mysteries. Multiple identities and past events intertwine. Amid the upheavals of Republican-era society, these characters struggle with ideals, human nature, and emotion, their search for personal truths growing into a reckoning with the fate of the nation and its people. In the end, some sacrifice themselves for their beliefs, some become victims of power, some find redemption, and some are buried forever beneath the dust of history.
