A Republic-Era Spy Thriller? Why Has the Tone Gone Off the Rails!

Chen Mo wakes up one day to discover that he has transmigrated to the turbulent Republic of China era.

In his ideal version of the story, he would punch secret agents, kick traitors, become an invisible guardian, then retire after succeeding, keeping his deeds and fame hidden.

But reality is that, because he looks so much like a fallen hero, an underground organization mistakes him for the man and forcibly plants him in a key department at the heart of enemy territory, where he becomes a glorious... slacker spy.

“Sir, I really just want to coast along and collect my paycheck!”

“Comrade, the depth of that code phrase is extraordinary. You truly are our ace!”

“I’m not! I didn’t! Don’t make things up!”

With a suspicious, cold-blooded superior, coworkers who smile while hiding knives, and a genuine enemy big shot who wants him dead right away, Chen Mo’s daily life undercover is riddled with holes and utterly chaotic.

Passing information through a police dog’s food bowl? Sabotaging operations with chili powder? Stealing secrets by making things up as he goes?

While everyone else wages spy warfare with skill and intelligence, Chen Mo fights with his uncanny luck and his modern-day talent for snark!

At the very edge of ruining everything, he somehow manages to complete the mission... along the way.

This is the story of how a rookie, in the most serious of eras, becomes a legend by the most unserious means, through one absurd coincidence after another.
