Against the Current: Shangguan Huali

Ning Yuan, an ordinary young man from a modern city, transmigrates after an accident into an ancient world of martial heroes and deadly blades. At first, he is drawn into conflicts spanning both the imperial court and the martial world simply to survive. Along the way, he meets like-minded companions and faces power struggles and mortal dangers. As rival sects clash, Ning Yuan gradually grows into a true martial artist. He searches for clues that might lead him home, yet unwittingly becomes the center of a storm sweeping across the martial world. His is not the only story: Song Muyu protects her family, Shen Jiushu pursues power, Du Qiaozhu saves lives, and Lei Yao leads a double life as a spy, among other storylines that intertwine. In the end, everyone must protect the people from a cataclysm a century in the making. Amid the chaos, Ning Yuan finds redemption and writes a new chapter of his own, in his own way.
