Mom's Ledger Never Had an Entry for Herself

Cheng Xiaoyu once thought her mother, Cheng Xuemei, led a dull, uneventful life, and that the distance between them had grown as Xiaoyu got older. Then one chance discovery changed everything: Xiaoyu found the account book her mother had treasured for years.

The book recorded every little detail of Xiaoyu’s life as she grew up. From childhood tuition and stationery to the hardships her mother endured while concealing her illness during Xiaoyu’s college entrance exams, every entry represented her mother’s painstaking efforts. To send Xiaoyu to a top middle school, her mother even sold her blood to raise the money. On the eve of the entrance exams, her mother collapsed from exhaustion but still forced herself to hide her illness. Yet the book contained not a single record of anything her mother had spent on herself.

As Xiaoyu looked at the account book, countless nights of her mother’s sacrifices came back to her, and all the little things she had overlooked welled up inside her. Her past misunderstandings and impatience turned into deep regret. The account book was a silent testament to her mother’s love and the key that helped Xiaoyu see her mother in a new light, finally understanding the depth and greatness of a mother’s love.
